Deschutes River Trail - Old Mill District
This 2.7 mile trail is a great, low-intensity, paved walkway in and around the Old Mill District area. It consists of a North loop and a South Loop. This local favorite is a must see, and offers the opportunity to scout out potential activities. Enjoy watching river surfers and floaters or eavesdrop on a couple songs from the outdoor concerts at Hayden Homes Amphitheater.
Pilot Butte Trail and Viewpoint
This out-and-back 1.8-mile trail scales the dormant volcano located in the middle of Bend. The 500ft elevation gain is considered moderately difficult, but well worth the panoramic views of the high desert. If hiking is not your thing, a roadway to the summit is open during the warmer months. Sights include: Downtown Bend, Three Sisters, Mt. Bachelor, Mt. Jefferson, Smith Rock, and on the clearest of days Mt. Hood!
Bat Caves
Just outside Bend, the Lava River Cave offers a unique underground adventure through the longest lava tube in the state. This mile-long cave stays a chilly 42°F year-round, so bring a jacket and a good flashlight! As you walk through the dark, winding tunnels, you’ll see incredible rock formations shaped by ancient volcanic eruptions. It’s a must-visit for anyone looking to explore Central Oregon’s wild side.
High Desert Museum
